Range Configuration: How to Import Your Range Data into Pequity

This article walks you through adding or importing unique Ranges or pay band data in Pequity Ranges for the first time using the data upload, mapping and publish flow.

Welcome! If you're new to Pequity or updating your Range List / Job Architecture, this guide will walk you through how to import your own Range data using a CSV. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Download Your Ranges or Build File

Preparing your data for import is the first step. All Employee data in Pequity will require a minimum of a unique employee id column. To maximize your Range module ensure all Job Architecture fields match and are loaded to your People data. Learn more about People Configuration here!

Download our Range Data Template as a guide for your first Data Source here.

When preparing your first Data Source remember:

  1. Include all Job Architecture: Job Family Group, Job Family, Level, Geo (matched to People region)

  2. Separate Comp Elements (Base Salary, Equity, Bonus, etc) into Low, Mid, and High to compare to People for Compa Ratio and Salary Penetration

  3. For international currencies: include Currency Code column with correct currency code (USD, EUR, GBP, etc)

  4. Plan ahead for Range access permissions using Job Architecture for granularity

💡 This is to add ranges to your Range page to prepare to kick off your first Comp Cycle. This data set may be used as the base for any SFTP or API connections so please be sure to include preferred columns. This can be updated later but good to start with a good base!

➕ Step 2: Review & Add Custom Columns to Match your Data Source

Range default fields are included automatically in your Pequity Range module, but those aren't always an exact fit! When configuring your first Data Source be sure you have the columns built for your data set from the start:

  1. Go to Edit Columns in the Range tab.

  2. Review Default Columns.

  3. Click + Add Column.

  4. Name your new column (e.g., “Pay Split”).

  5. Set the type (e.g., Currency, String, Number).

  6. Pick a color to highlight it (optional).

  7. Make it editable, filterable, and sortable (optional).

  8. Choose where it appears in your table (optional).

📁 Step 3: Add New Range Source

  1. Navigate to the Data tab.

  2. Click Add New Source.

  3. Upload your CSV file.

  4. Name your import and add a description to help differentiate it later. (Optional)

If your headers aren’t in Row 1, you can choose the correct row before mapping.

🧠 Step 4: Confirm your Data Rules

Pequity’s AI will take a first pass at mapping your columns to existing system fields like Job Family Group, Job Family, Level, Geo Code, etc.

  • Check for mapping errors (click “Filter by Errors”).

  • Resolve any flagged fields (e.g., duplicate emails).

  • If a column like "Job Family" doesn’t need to be unique, you can toggle that off.

Once satisfied:

  1. Confirm the data types (e.g., dates, currency).

  2. Click Next and Review the import.

  3. Export the cleaned data if desired.

  4. Click Upload to import your Data Source.

Your employee data is available to be published in Pequity People!

🔄 Step 5: Map Data to Range Fields

  1. Go back to the Ranges tab.

  2. Click Edit Columns > Data Mapping.

  3. Set the new upload as your primary data source.

  4. Map key fields like:

    • Job Family Group

    • Job Family

    • Level

    • Geo Code (note: this will map to your loaded People Regions)

    • Base Salary Low/Mid/High
  5. Click Publish Changes.

Your range data will now appear correctly in the Range list.
