How to Import Your Employee Data into Pequity
Welcome! If you're new to Pequity or using a free trial, this guide will walk you through how to import your own employee roster and start working with your actual data. Let’s get started!
🧹 Step 1: Clear Out Demo Data
If your workspace was preloaded with demo data, you’ll see ~1,000 sample employee records.
To remove them:
-
Go to the People tab.
-
Select all employees using bulk select.
-
Confirm that all 1,000+ are selected.
-
Click Delete.
This may take a few moments—hang tight while it completes.
💡 You can still explore Comp Cycle templates! These operate independently and won’t be affected by deleting the demo employee data.
➕ Step 2: Add Custom Columns (Optional)
Want to track something specific—like a custom stipend or bonus type?
-
Go to Edit Columns in the People tab.
-
Click + Add Column.
-
Name your new column (e.g., “Gym Stipend”).
-
Set the type (e.g., Currency).
-
Pick a color to highlight it (optional).
-
Make it editable, filterable, and sortable (optional).
-
Choose where it appears in your table (optional).
📁 Step 3: Import Your Employee Data File
-
Navigate to the Data tab.
-
Click Add New Source.
-
Upload your CSV file.
-
Name your import (optional).
-
(Optional) Add a description to help differentiate it later.
If your headers aren’t in Row 1, you can choose the correct row before mapping.
🧠 Step 4: Review and Map Your Data
Pequity’s AI will take a first pass at mapping your columns to existing system fields.
-
Check for mapping errors (click “Filter by Errors”).
-
Resolve any flagged fields (e.g., duplicate emails).
-
If a column like "Email" doesn’t need to be unique, you can toggle that off.
Once satisfied:
-
Confirm the data types (e.g., dates, currency).
-
Click Next and Review the import.
-
Export the cleaned data if desired.
-
Click Upload to complete the import.
Your employee data is now in Pequity!
🔄 Step 5: Map Data to People Fields
-
Go back to the People tab.
-
Click Edit Columns > Data Mapping.
-
Set the new upload as your primary data source.
-
Map key fields like:
-
First Name
-
Last Name
-
Start Date
-
Base Salary
-
-
Click Publish Changes.
Your employee data will now appear correctly in the People list.
🚀 Step 6: Put Your Data to Work
Now that your people data is loaded, you can:
-
Use it in Insights (refreshed daily)
-
Launch a new Comp Cycle:
-
Go to Comp Cycles and create a new cycle.
-
Select your uploaded employee list.
-
Choose which columns to import.
-
Click Confirm.
-
Just like that—you’re ready to begin planning compensation with your own data.
