People Configuration: How to Import Your People Data into Pequity

This article walks you through adding or importing employee data in Pequity People for the first time using the data upload, mapping and publish flow.

Welcome! If you're new to Pequity or updating your People List / Employee Census, this guide will walk you through how to import your own People data using a CSV. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Download Your Employee Roster or File

Preparing your data from your HRIS or HR tracking system is the first step. All Employee data in Pequity will require a minimum of a unique employee id column. To maximize your People module include all Job Architecture fields that match your Ranges. Learn more about Range Configuration here!

Download our People Data Template as a guide for your first Data Source here.

When preparing your first Data Source remember:

  1. Include EID or unique Employee ID

  2. Separate First Name and Last Name

  3. For international currencies: include Currency Code column with correct currency code (USD, EUR, GBP, etc)

  4. If providing manager access to People, include Manager email and ID*

*Note: this will not invite your Managers to Pequity until they are added as a User in the Team Member Global Settings.

💡 This is to add employees to your People page to prepare to kick off your first Comp Cycle. This data set may be used as the base for any SFTP or API connections so please be sure to include preferred columns. This can be updated later but good to start with a good base!

➕ Step 2: Review & Add Custom Columns to Match your Data Source

People default fields are included automatically in your Pequity People module, but those aren't always an exact fit! When configuring your first Data Source be sure you have the columns built for your data set from the start:

  1. Go to Edit Columns in the People tab.

  2. Review Default Columns.

  3. Click + Add Column.

  4. Name your new column (e.g., “Gym Stipend”).

  5. Set the type (e.g., Currency).

  6. Pick a color to highlight it (optional).

  7. Make it editable, filterable, and sortable (optional).

  8. Choose where it appears in your table (optional).

📁 Step 3: Add New People Source

  1. Navigate to the Data tab.

  2. Click Add New Source.

  3. Upload your CSV file.

  4. Name your import and add a description to help differentiate it later. (Optional)

If your headers aren’t in Row 1, you can choose the correct row before mapping.

🧠 Step 4: Confirm your Data Rules

Pequity’s AI will take a first pass at mapping your columns to existing system fields like EID, Job Family Group, Job Family, Level, Region, etc.

  • Check for mapping errors (click “Filter by Errors”).

  • Resolve any flagged fields (e.g., duplicate emails).

  • If a column like "Email" doesn’t need to be unique, you can toggle that off.

Once satisfied:

  1. Confirm the data types (e.g., dates, currency).

  2. Click Next and Review the import.

  3. Export the cleaned data if desired.

  4. Click Upload to import your Data Source.

Your employee data is available to be published in Pequity People!

🔄 Step 5: Map Data to People Fields

  1. Go back to the People tab.

  2. Click Edit Columns > Data Mapping.

  3. Set the new upload as your primary data source.

  4. Map key fields like:

    • First Name

    • Last Name

    • Start Date

    • Base Salary

  5. Click Publish Changes.

Your employee data will now appear correctly in the People list.
