How to Get Started with Kaitlyn’s Best Practice Comp Cycle Template
Pequity includes a pre-configured Best Practice Merit Cycle Template, built by our co-founder Kaitlyn Knopp, to help you quickly launch a comp cycle with tried-and-true logic, formulas, and workflows. This guide walks you through accessing the template, importing your data, and customizing the logic to fit your company’s needs.
Accessing the Template

From the Home Page or the Navigation Bar, go to Comp Cycles.

Select Kaitlyn’s Best Practice Merit Cycle Template.

Open the Admin Dashboard to view the workbook.
The workbook is pre-configured with all required columns, logic, and formulas—you only need to import your own employee data.
Importing Employee Data

Go to the Data tab.

Open the pre-created Employee Template File.
-
This file shows you the column structure your data needs to follow.

Export your employee roster from your HRIS as a CSV.
-
Reformat it to match the template.

Required fields include:

EID
-
Last Name
-
First Name
-
Start Date
-
Base Salary
-

Download your reformatted roster as a CSV.

In Pequity, select Upload New Version.
-
Confirm your header row.
-
Validate the data—any errors will be highlighted in red.

You can fix issues directly in the importer or re-upload.

Once clean, choose Publish Version.
Your latest employee data is now visible on the People Page.
Note: If salary ranges don’t appear to align, that’s expected until you import ranges later in the process.
Duplicating the Template
To create your own working cycle:

Navigate back to Comp Cycles.

Duplicate Kaitlyn’s Best Practice Template.

Rename it (e.g., Test Cycle).
-
Enter the Admin Dashboard.

Delete the sample employee records.
-
Import your own employee data using the same process above.
Pequity’s comp logic will automatically run to model budgets and spend once the data is uploaded.
Customizing Logic & Columns
The template includes built-in formulas for eligibility, proration, ratings, salary increase recommendations, and final salary. You can review or adjust these by going to Edit Columns.
Here’s what you can configure for each column:

Name: Label shown in the workbook.

Value: Variable used in formulas.
-
Type: Data type (number, text, date).
-
Formatting: Decimal places, colors, etc.
-
Visibility & Permissions: Control which roles (Admins, Planners) can view or edit.

Advanced Options: Tooltips, formulas, data syncs.
Reviewing & Modeling
Once your employee data is in place:

Use the Budget Wheel to see how changes impact spend.
-
Override recommendations as an Admin to test scenarios.
-
Filter for employees above, within, or below guidance.
-
Bulk update data (e.g., ratings) or simulate promotions.
Final Steps

Review roles to ensure planners are correctly assigned.

Configure Reward Letter Templates to communicate results.
