How to Enable HR and People Partners to Import People Data into Comp Cycles
Pequity now allows Admins to give non-admin users—like HR business partners and People team members—the ability to import and sync employee data within a compensation cycle. This is a major time saver for lean teams or organizations with distributed HR responsibilities.
This guide walks you through how to grant access, set up permissions, and walk through the workflow for importing and syncing people data without requiring full admin privileges.
Step 1: Assign People Access to a Non-Admin User
Start by identifying the non-admin user who should be able to import employee data.
-
Go to the People Settings in Pequity.
-
Click Choose Access and either select an existing access group or click Add New.
-
If creating a new group:
-
Name your group (e.g., “Engineering Org”).
-
Select Configurable Access.
-
Apply filters such as "Job Family Group = Engineering" to scope the access to only relevant employees.
-
Save the group.
-
-
Assign this access group to the target user(s).
This access determines which employee records the user can view in the People List.
Step 2: Create a Custom Role in the Comp Cycle, Or Modify An Existing Role
-
Navigate to the Admin Dashboard of the comp cycle.
-
Go to the Roles tab and create a new role, such as “HR Partner.”
-
Under layout settings, grant access to the Admin View so the user can see and edit all planning columns.
-
Enable the setting: Can import, copy, and sync data.
Step 3: Assign the Role in the Planning Hierarchy
-
Navigate to Planning Hierarchy.
-
Assign the new HR Partner role to your selected user(s) for the relevant planning group.
Now, the user will be able to import and sync people data—without being a platform Admin.
Step 4: Importing or Syncing People Data
When logged in as a user with the HR role:
-
Go to the comp cycle and navigate to the appropriate planning group.
-
You’ll see the options to:
-
Import Employees: Select employees from the scoped people list, choose specific fields to update (e.g., Job Family Group, Start Date), and confirm the import.
-
Sync Employee Data: Choose specific employees and pull updates directly from the People Page, such as recent edits to start dates or salaries.
-
This allows scoped, real-time updates without admin overhead.
Step 5: Making One-Off Updates
If you prefer to make changes manually:
-
Ensure the planning group is Active.
-
With the appropriate role assigned, you can click into an employee row and update fields like "Job Family Group" or "Start Date".
This is great for one-time corrections or edge cases.
Recap
-
HR users no longer need admin access to import employee data into comp cycles.
-
You can define specific access scopes using People Access settings.
-
Custom roles in comp cycles allow HR users to import and sync data for their teams.
-
This supports better decentralization, faster updates, and reduced admin burden.
