How to Assign Currency Codes to Currency Fields in Pequity Comp Cycles

Learn how to dynamically assign currency codes to currency fields in your Comp Cycle workbooks, enabling multi-currency compensation planning.

Overview

When working with Comp Cycles in Pequity, you can assign currency codes to currency fields to support planning across multiple geographies. This guide walks you through configuring both static and dynamic currency assignments.

Understanding Currency Fields

In a CompCycle workbook, you'll typically see:
  • A Local Currency column that displays the currency code (e.g., CAD, USD, INR)
  • Currency-type columns that display amounts with their associated currency codes (e.g., Current Salary, Recommended Increase, New Salary)

Configuring Currency Codes

All currency configuration is done through the Edit Columns page.

Step 1: Access Column Configuration
  1. Navigate to Edit Columns
  2. Find the currency field you want to configure (e.g., Recommended Increase, Current Salary)
  3. Click the gear icon under Advanced Options to open Column Configuration

Step 2: Choose Currency Assignment Method

You have two options for assigning currency codes: Static and Dynamic.

Static Currency Assignment
  • Choose a single currency code that applies to everyone in the column
  • Best for planning within a single geography
  • Example: Setting all salaries to USD

Dynamic Currency Assignment
  • Currency code is looked up from another column (typically Local Currency)
  • Best for planning across multiple geographies
  • Automatically updates when the reference column changes

Step 3: Apply Dynamic Currency (Recommended for Multi-Currency Planning)

  1. In the Column Configuration panel, select Dynamic
  2. Choose Local Currency as the lookup column
  3. Click Apply

Step 4: Ensure Correct Column Type

If you don't see the currency code selector:
  1. Check that the column Type is set to Currency (not Decimal or other types)
  2. Change the type to Currency if needed
  3. The currency code selector will now appear in Column Configuration

Step 5: Repeat for All Currency Fields

Apply the same configuration to all relevant currency fields in your CompCycle:
  • Current Salary
  • Recommended Increase
  • Enter Increase Amount
  • New Salary
  • Any other custom currency fields

How It Works

Once configured, currency codes automatically update in real-time:
  • When you change a person's Local Currency from CAD to INR, all their currency fields immediately reflect INR
  • Each employee can have their own currency code
  • Calculations respect the assigned currency

Best Practices
  • Use Dynamic Currency when planning across multiple countries or regions
  • Configure all currency fields consistently to ensure data integrity
  • Set up the Local Currency column first before configuring dependent fields
  • Test your configuration by changing a Local Currency value and confirming all fields update correctly
