How to Add a Dropdown in Your Compensation Cycle
Adding a dropdown in your compensation cycle helps standardize data entry and improve data accuracy. Follow these steps to create dropdown options for any column.
Step 1: Navigate to Your Compensation Cycle
Open the specific compensation cycle where you’d like to add dropdown options.
Step 2: Click “Edit Columns”
From your comp cycle view, click Edit Columns to access the list of fields or columns available in your cycle.
Step 3: Check the Column Type
Find the column you want to add dropdown options to, and make sure its Type is set to List.
-
If it’s already a list type, move on to the next step.
-
If not, you’ll need to update or create a new column with the type set to “List.”
Step 4: Add a New Column (If Needed)
If the column doesn’t exist yet:
-
Click Add Column on the upper right.
-
Fill in the necessary details such as the name and label.
-
Set the Type to List before saving.
Step 5: Access the Dropdown Settings
Once your column is available, you’ll see a small list icon next to it.
Click that icon to open the dropdown configuration menu.

Step 6: Add Your Dropdown Options
You can now add the options for your dropdown list.
-
To add a single option: Type in the option name and click + Add Option.
-
To add multiple options at once: List each option on a separate line in the designated tab or field.
Each line will automatically be added as a new dropdown value — allowing you to create multiple options in bulk. - After adding your options don't forget to click Save to update your changes.
Go back to your workbook and test it out on your column.
